Grand National Short Track
In typically dramatic fashion, the 1982 Santa Fe
Short Track National, went down to the wire Friday night as Alex
Jorgensen of Stockton, California titled his second successive Short
Track National on the Chicago clay oval. The event was crucial for
riders atop the tight AMA point standings. Jorgensen earned 20 points
and his share of the $30,000 purse.
Jay Springsteen finished second followed by Bubba
Shobert, Bill Herndon, Ronnie Jones, and Garth Brow. Heats were: 1)
Steve Eklund; 2) Alex Jorgensen; 3) Dave Hebb; 4) Jay Springsteen; 5)
Ronnie Jones; 6) Randy Goss.
Grand National TT
The AMA Winston Pro Series TT Steeplechase
National originally rained out on July 16 was rescheduled for September

Chicagoland’s Showplace for Motor Sports to compete in the prestigious
Winston Pro Series Grand National TT Steeplechase.
Rick Graham of Seaside, California saddled his

during which he had squandered a substantial point lead over three-time
champion and teammate, Jay Springsteen.

Fay, Alex Jorgensen, Ronnie Jones, and fast qualifier, Bubba Shobert.
Heats were won by: 1) Graham; 2) Jorgensen; 3) Fay; 4) Eklund.
